CHARACTERISTICS OF PIKE CRANKBAITS
Pike crankbaits vary widely in length, shape, diving depth and action. The action refers to the way the lure moves through the water. Most crankbaits have a diving paddle at the front that determines how deep the lure swims when reeled in. The size of the crankbait often depends on the type of predatory fish you are fishing for; for pike, crankbaits between 10 and 16 cm are usually the most effective.

USING CRANKBAITS WHEN PIKE FISHING
Pike crankbaits can be used all year round, except for the closed season in spring from 1 March to the last Saturday in May. During this period, pike can spawn undisturbed. Crankbaits are effective because they can elicit an aggressive response from pike, a fish known for its predatory nature. Whether you choose crankbaits that rattle, have multiple segments or offer realistic fish imitation, they can all be successful.

TYPES OF PIKE CRANKBAITS AND THEIR ACTION
There are different types of crankbaits:

  • Swimming depth: The depth at which a crankbait swims is determined by the size and angle of the blade. Crankbaits with an almost horizontal blade dive deeper, while crankbaits with a less sharp angle swim less deep.
  • Sinking, floating or floating: these characteristics determine how the crankbait behaves when you stop reeling it in. Floating and floating crankbaits rise or remain suspended, which can be very attractive to pike.
  • Colours and patterns: The choice of colour depends on the conditions. In clear water and light weather it is best to choose natural colours. In murky water or low light conditions, bright colours are more effective in attracting the attention of pike.
