WHAT IS A BAITCASTING REEL?
A baitcasting reel sits on top of the rod so that the spool is parallel to the rod. Reels have a shaft that is fixed in the reel body on two sides. This allows you to apply much greater forces with a baitcasting reel than with a spinning reel. With a reel you can also cast more precisely. With your thumb on the reel spool, you control the line release during casting for controlled casts.
